A crew that knows its jobs
With a regular crew you stop arguing about who's on the wheel. Someone navigates, someone repairs, someone mans the cannons and someone is definitely playing the hurdy-gurdy at the wrong moment. That rhythm makes voyages smoother and fights winnable.
